Welcome

Thank you for visiting our website which is here to provide information and ways to feedback on our plans for a 520MW battery energy storage system (BESS) on land at Red House Farm, north of Yaxley, east of Mellis, south of Thrandeston, and west of the former RAF Eye.

We are Regener8, our vision is to help power the country towards more reliable, affordable, and clean energy through quality and innovative schemes, which do more than just generate and store clean energy, but also benefit the local community.

Founded in 2018, we focus on the development of high-quality solar and energy storage projects. At the moment, we have almost 50 projects across the UK, Italy and Poland.

In 2019, Mid Suffolk District Council declared a climate emergency, and has since taken steps to support Suffolk’s aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. The council has committed to “take the lead in responding to the challenge of climate change and protecting and enhancing our natural and historic environments”. They have also agreed a Carbon Reduction Management Plan and a Biodiversity Action Plan.

We have been working with our consultants and the landowners to bring plans forward. We are now keen to discuss the emerging plans with the community, listen to feedback and understand how you think the plans can be improved.

Public Consultation

We held a public consultation event on 31st March at Mellis Memorial Hall to discuss the emerging plans with the wider community, listen to your feedback, and ensure the impacts are minimised and wider opportunities maximised.

The period of public consultation and feedback window is now closed - thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposals.

We will consider all comments before we finalise our plans. We intend submitting a planning application in May 2025.

Some of the key benefits include:

icon-co2

The displacement of thousands of tonnes of CO2 from equivalent fossil fuel energy.

icon-butterfly

Significant biodiversity net gain through new planting, wildlife corridors and wildflower grassland.

battery-1

BESS enables energy from renewables to be stored in batteries when supply outstrips demand.

icon-group

A community benefit fund will be provided to support local causes.

icon-money

Business rates payments to the Council, which can be spent on local services and infrastructure.

A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a large rechargeable battery that stores electricity and releases it when needed. It helps make sure there’s always enough power available, even when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing. By storing extra energy when supply is high and using it when demand is greater, BESS helps keep the electricity grid stable, reduces reliance on fossil fuels, and supports a cleaner, more reliable energy system.
